I am the government: Najeeb's latest Jung with Kejriwal

The rejection of Maliwal's appointment by Jung, accused by the AAP of being a BJP agent in the national capital, will further intensify the acrimony between the Centre and the Delhi government.

Delhi's Lieutenent Governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday took his turf war with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to a new level by claiming his office is also the government of the national capital. "The constitutional definition of 'government' is the Lieutenant Governor," a letter sent by Jung's office to Kejriwal, in which the LG shot down Swati Mahiwal's appointment as chief of Delhi Commission for Women, said.

The rejection of Maliwal's appointment by Jung, accused by the AAP of being a BJP agent in the national capital, will further intensify the acrimony between the Centre and the Delhi government. The two had locked horns earlier on the appointment of officers in the Anti-Corruption Branch and over Jung's powers to appoint key officers. Meanwhile, Maliwal said she has not received any letter from Jung over her appointment.

I have not received any communication from the LG's office or the Delhi government on the issue. I am doing my work. I will continue doing my work whether I remain in the post or not," Maliwal, who is wife of AAP leader Navin Jaihind, said. Maliwal, a Right to Information activist, on Monday took charge of the DCW, succeeding Barkha Singh. The 30-year-old, who was a member of the India Against Corruption anti-graft movement that preceded the AAP, had also served as an advisor to Kejriwal.
